Today STEM-ALL collaborated with Give Chances, an organization fostering the growth and confidence of students and closing the achievement gap, which is everso increasing as economically disadvantaged students are continuingly left behind. STEM-ALL worked with students from first grade to fourth grade, introducing them to STEM topics and basic computer knowledge. With the younger kids, the volunteers of STEM-ALL taught them basic computer skills and the foundations of typing, essential skills for their future success. Meanwhile, for the older kids, they were introduced to the basics of coding while learning about the marine ecosystem. Through the code, students learned how overfishing has damaged the marine ecosystem and ways humans can change their actions to limit their damage to the ecosystem. These students left with a new interest in coding and gratefulness for their surrounding environment. STEM-ALL hopes to collaborate with future organizations and nurturing the minds of these curious students from disadvantaged neighborhoods.
